Jei D. Marcade is a speculative fiction writer, anosmiac, and aspiring oneironaut who is testing out the New Spivak gender-neutral pronoun. Ey also enjoys describing emself in the third person and will continue to do so for the duration of this faux-biography.Born and bred in the shadow of Chicago, Jei spent eir childhood reading a lot of books, raising a lot of rodents, and watching a lot of horror movies. Ey has since run Z-day drills in the Athens of the Midwest, learned how to spear things and love the word "like" in the Rebel County, wrangled munchkins in the tangerine capital of the universe, and practiced slaps and shin kicks in Haechi's city. After working on/losing sleep over/crying about a pre-cyberpunk comic book script for eir thesis, Jei graduated with honors from the University of Iowa bearing a B.A. in English, a minor in anthropology, and a bunch of nerdy tattoos.
Deeply afflicted with wanderlust, Jei has traipsed about Ireland, the U.K., Austria, Italy, France, South Korea, Canada, and Japan and has yet to find a cure. After graduating in 2011 from the Clarion West Writers Workshop, Jei has made eir triumphant return to Seattle and is training to become a mad library scientist.
